Philosophy Of Teaching Math
Mathematics is the foundation to everything ever built, or created in the world. Mathematics is the reason why we have so many great inventions and technology in the world today. Math is something that everybody should know and be good at in order to be successful in life. Math is such a great tool because it is endless, and there are new things to be discovered every day in it. When teaching mathematics to students, they need to understand that math deals with a lot of critical thinking and problem solving that they are going to be dealing with when they get into the real world. So, as a teacher it’s important to make sure they notice how much math is involved in their life.
Throughout my years of being a student I have realized that sometimes a teacher can determine whether a student understands and likes math depending on how they teach. Students usually learn best when a teacher can make the material relatable to them and has a fun personality. Such as, creating group work, making games for the whole class to play and work together, and create problems related to sports or current social media. I believe these strategies will help students succeed more in the classroom because they create a comfortable and stress free environment for them, which therefore brings out their full potential. In the classroom, it is always good to be very encouraging to students because every student will make mistakes on test, quizzes, or answering questions in class and learning from their mistakes will be very beneficial to them learning math. As a result of that, students will have a more positive approach when dealing with math instead of getting down on themselves when they get something wrong.
The students we teach are going to be the people of the future that we are going to have to rely on to create new inventions and run this country. It’s our jobs as math educators to make sure that our students are prepared as much as possible for the real world, and to make sure they have the right mathematic skills to be successful in their life.
